Position: Senior Mining Engineer
Department: Mining Department
Report to: General Manager, Mine Manager, Chief Engineer
Location: Ulaanbaatar office and Mine site in western Mongolia
Summary of Job Role:
Lead and oversee the implementation and completion of feasibility studies, develop a safe and practical short to long term mine plan and manage the tactical execution of the plan and schedule, aiming for continuous improvement to the mine plan.
Lead and oversee the implementation and completion of feasibility studies within the approved service contracts, international and Mongolian technical standards and regulatory requirements.
Provide consultancy and expert advice on mining and mineral extraction projects.
Implement and monitor long and short term mine planning and mine design.
Design of detailed schedules and layouts.
Assist and cooperate with other section heads in establishing an engineering budget.
Maintain an ordered repository of data, mine plans, engineering drawings, and related documents.
Establish production targets and monitor their achievement; assure that monthly progress plans are completed on time and are available.
Work alongside the Mine Geologist to optimize grade control and minimize dilution through mine designs and mine plans.
Ensure designs and applications are consistent with national regulatory and company policies and procedures.
Provide assistance and advice to the operating units ensuring maximum production, plan their activities, ensure they have correct and up-to-date plans and information, and accurately measure key mining specifications.
Ensure that a monthly digest of relevant KPIs, measures of progress and reports is available.
Evaluate new and innovative products, techniques and procedures.
Recognize options and advise on actions to adopt best practices for engineering.
Advise and assist on project management processes to lead mine improvement projects.
Qualifications and technical competencies:
A minimum of 10 years as a mining engineer working at a specialist level in a metalliferous open-pit.
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
Excellent knowledge of a mining software package, preferably Surpac, although users of other packages such as Minesight, Vulcan and Datamine will be considered; Good verbal and written skills to facilitate information transfer both upwards and downwards in direction.
Knowledge of MS Office especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Able to work with minimal supervision and to take ownership of their area, being prepared to work unsocial hours as required.
Leadership capabilities and able to work with local teams, ability to train, teach and mentor national staff.
Bilingual abilities (Mongolia and Chinese or English) will be advantageous.
Able to work effectively in a multinational and multicultural environment.
